The 2nd Annual Make:KC Mini Maker Faire is joining the festivities again this year. Parkville Days Riverfest is one of downtown Parkville's biggest festivals that offers great family entertainment and fun in historic downtown Parkville.

 

New this year, Make:KC would also like to invite you to our Steampunk Party, Saturday evening starting at 8:00 p.m. at the River's Bend Restaurant and Bar.

This year's event offers something for everyone! Artists and crafters will have their work on display in booths in English Landing Centre. Food vendors will offer everything from kettle corn to drinks to corn dogs. There will be pony rides for the young at heart. The Evans Midland Empire Carnival will be in downtown all weekend. Carnival wristband specials will be Friday and Saturday from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm.

 

There will be great jazz and blues on the stage in English Landing Centre Friday night and Saturday starting at 4:00 pm. Everyone is encouraged to use the free parking at Park University and take the free shuttle to the festival. Parking downtown is very limited. Plus, the merchant's downtown will be hosting their end of summer sale Friday and Saturday.

 

Saturday entertainment will include Tumble Cheer Gym, Kansas City Mini Makers Fair and Karate for Kids demonstrations. And, watch the sky light up Saturday night with the Sky Lantern Launch at H.M.S. Beagle. Each lantern will sell for $10 each or 3 for $25. Purchasers may write messages on each sky lantern before being launched. Each sky lantern is constructed of flameproof paper and bamboo and is 100% biodegradable. Profits of each sky lantern purchase goes to Parkville Flood Relief.

 

This year's parade (starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 20) promises to be the "best ever." Not only will there be bands and floats, but this year's parade will feature entries by area Shriners! The theme for this year's parade is "Excellence in Education" and Park Hill Superintendent Dr. Dennis Fisher, Park Hill School District, is the Grand Marshal. Following the parade the Harvey Band will be preforming in Pocket Park until 3:00 pm.

 

Sunday on the stage local artist will perform live acoustic and Millennium Academy will have 20 minute demonstration, a free 20 minute Krav Maga (adult self-defense / fitness workout) and a free 20 minute youth self-defense martial arts class at 11:30 am.

 

The 2nd Annual Kansas City Mini Maker Faire will be set up in English Landing Centre all weekend. The Mini Maker Faire will feature the works of Kansas City's own do-it-yourselfers with exhibits and demonstrations on robotics, costumes, amateur radio, a Jacob's Ladder, MakerBot Cupcake CNC's and more! The Mini Maker Faire is being hosted by the Make:KC group in partnership with the H.M.S. Beagle and in cooperation with the national Maker Faire organization.

 

Admission is free and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy a relaxing day at English Landing Centre. Everyone is encouraged to use the free parking at Park University and take the free shuttle to the festival. Parking downtown is very limited. Alcohol will be available at the festival; but cannot be taken out of the festival grounds. Outside alcohol will not be allowed into the festival.
