About Make: KC

Make:KC - Art & Technology in Kansas City

Make: KC is organized to provide life-long learning opportunities and support for youth and adults in the greater Kansas City area to exchange ideas, skills, and resources; create collaborations among scientists, engineers, makers, crafters, artists, and students to and learn and build things together.

A Family Friendly Organization for All Ages

Successful Cigar Box Guitar Build NightWe are a family friendly organization inspired by Make Magazine and projects from their Makezine web site. We are the first organization to bring the Maker Faire movement to Kansas City through our Mini Maker Faires.

We have activities nearly every week, from Show & Tell on the first Tuesday of the month to Build Nights on subsequent Tuesdays and we're working on starting additional activities at the MCC-BTC Fab Lab. We are working on adding a Make:KC/Robotics Special Interest Group with meeting times/dates to be announced soon.

We find high school students interested in art, science and technology who are looking for alternatives to sports. We find parents of elementary and middle school students who are looking for ways of learning so they can help support their kids interests. We hope to encourage Lifelong Learning through activities that promote learning by doing. We look for people of all ages who are willing to help by becoming a mentor to others. But most of all we do this for the fun of learning a variety of skills for ourselves.

Fab Lab

Make:KC is building an alliance with the new MCC-BTC Fab Lab (Fabrication Laboratory) which is part the Metropolitan Community College, Business and Technology (BTC) campus. The Fab Lab concept was started at MIT as part of their "How to build (almost) anything" course. The BTC Fab Lab is planned as a community based place where we can work with some very impressive machines like, milling machines, lathes, 3D printers, 3D scanners, and much more.

Sponsors

The HMS Beagle Science Store is a great sponsor of Make:KC. They provide space for many of our Build Night activities and other support. If you get a chance be sure to check them out.
