Benchtop Power Supply Build Night #1

First night building the Benchtop Power Supplies.

This project is based on the National Semiconductor LM317 adjustable regulator. The schematic shown at the top of page 18 (of 28) is the device we're building.

We harvested heat sink and transistors along with the power resistor (R3 in the schematic) from scrap equipment Steve brought in. We decided to modify the design by adding two auxiliary power outlets (shown below). These are dedicated  constant voltage and constant amperage outputs using LM7805 (5 volt) and LM7812 (12 volt) components.

Steve brought along a prototype of the 5"x7" CNC Machined faceplate we're using.
