Robots, Rockets, Submarines and More!

The Kansas City Mini Maker Faire is a celebration of the creative and inventive nature of area artists, tinkerers, scientists, hackers, and makers. This will be a unique event unlike other fairs and festivals in the greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

The Argonaut Jr. 2010 is a recreation of Simon Lake's 1894 wooden, proof of concept submarine. This is a working 14' wooden submarine.

There will be a variety of robots on display from the Kansas City Robotics Society including exhibition of BEAM, mini-sumo and line following robots. We have other groups and individuals bringing robots ranging from humanoid personal robots to FIRST Robotics and BEST Robotics projects. We expect to have a Drink Bot home built automated drink dispensing machine on display. The Robotic Labyrinths will be there too. These games were created by hacking the common XBox and WiiFit game controller signals and making
physical labyrinth games respond. The original wooden labyrinth will be there and a 4' x 4' 3D golf labyrinth.

Learn how to have fun building your own projects. Mitch Altman will be here with his unique soldering workshops.

The KC Fabricators group is bringing a collection of MakerBot home built 3D printers capable of making a variety of plastic parts from your own designs. There will be a home built Cupcake CNC Frostruder that can print designs on cookies and cupcakes

We have exhibits of rockets from the KC Flying Monkeys contest rocket project and other exhibitors including hands-on Interactive Paper Rocket Launchers.

The Kansas City Space Pirates will be there with their space elevator climbing robot. This is a unique chance to see an actual climber used for the NASA Space Elevator Competition.

We have DIY green technologies too. Solar hot water collection, storage, and utilization. The Habitat ReStore will also be there to display their Rain Barrel demonstration and provide information on how they can get involved.

Hallmark will bring an exhibit to show the whimsical combination of Art and Engineering for development of Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments. They will demonstrate their digital sculpting and engineering development process for ornaments. Example of prototypes and finished product will be shown.

This is a family friendly event. There are activities planned for all ages including, build your own specialized screwdriver that can take apart the
kids meal toys. Build your own air powered rockets. We are planning an activity for making slime. One of the exhibitors is planning to bring kits to build your own marshmallow blow gun shooters.

If that isn't enough, we are the Faire within the Parkville MO Riverfest. They have 80 vendors selling art, crafts, and food. They will have a carnival, miniature horse rides, and more. The event is in a beautiful wooded park along the banks of the Missouri River.
